Can you play this movie?

I’m working on different encodings to share my HD movies to you, my readers. So, in the spirit of things, I’ll give you a small sample. Click on the link below, and please tell me 2 things:

1. What did your browser say? Did it offer to open the file with a specific application? Or, did it just offer to “save to disk”. If the latter, choose to save, and then open with Windows Media Player or Quicktime.
2. Did it play? Did it look okay? Could you hear the sound? Did you have any other problems viewing the movie?

Ok, heres your link:

Steve, if I click on the test.avi file from within the specific entry for the blog (from http://slacy.com/blog/index.php/2008/04/02/can-you-play-this-movie/), I get a 404; file not found.

If I click on the test.avi file from the main blog page, it opens in WMP.

    This is using Firefox.

I use Firefox on a Windows XP laptop. Clicking that link offers to open the file with Windows Media Player, so if I say ok it downloads. Then WMP opens. Then I get this error: “Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found.”

  3. Stephen Mack Says:

And yeah, I can reproduce what Jim says — 404 from the individual page.

  4. slacy Says:

Ok, 404’s should be resolved, thanks for the feedback. So, no one was able to play it? Darn!

  5. JimY Says:

Steve, I was able to play it, played back fine, no noticeable difference between the two versions (but I didn’t pay that close attention).
