I’m doing research trying to find a good colocation facilitiy in the bay area. Here are some good leads:
Layer 42: 1U, 512kbps = $99/mo
vr.org: 1U + 1.5Mbps = $175/mo
monkeybrains.net: 1U + 1Mbps = $150/mo
fastcolocation.net: 1U + 1Mbps = $99/mo (+$150 setup)
servertweak.com: 1U + 1Mbps = $150/mo
xo.com: 4U + 1Mbps = $306/mo
Hurricane Electric: 7U + 1Mbps = $200
ColoCrossing: 1U + 1Mbps = $140/mo (1U = $65 + 1Mbps = $75)
more to come as I find them.
While I’m not a colocation customer, I’ve a real mixed bag with Hurricane Electric’s support – sure, someone’s there all the time, and I’ve found that if I get someone responsive, they aren’t that smart, and if I get someone smart, they aren’t that responsive. I’m not saying this is different than anyone else, I’m just saying.
Which one did you go with?
I ended up going with Layer42, and am paying $125/mo for 2U + 1Mbps 95%ile. Its working great!
Cool. Thanks for the list and the recommendation.
Thanks for the information, i agree. I have been an HE customer for last couple of years and moving out. Few things that i realized with HE.
1) remote hands – Better not to tell them anything to do with your servers. I requested for reboot, what they did was pulled the power chord and put it back couple of times and it corrupted the RAID.
2) Sales/server – Non-existent.
3) Billing – They been very rude and i have been over billed for the last 4 months.
Last but not the least, the hosting/co-location area seemed very hot ( not as i expected, since there are too many servers running). Atleast i would expect more ventilation / AC.
Overall- very bad experience. Would not suggest anybody.
