Giving OpenDNS a try

After chatting with friends over lunch about OpenDNS, I’ve decided to give it a try. What I’m mostly interested in is the anti-phishing and typo correction services, which seem pretty cool. It went pretty smoothly, although they didn’t have any instructions about how to update my OpenWRT router to OpenDNS. (thats no surprise!). The secret missing link was that I needed to reboot the router for the new DNS settings to take effect. Once I did that, things are up and running well.

I am trying out OpenDNS, Now every time that I use the google search from the Safari toolbar, Google accuses me of being a bot. Think that I’ll switch back to my normal DNS.

I have that same problem, but then after a couple of tries, it went away. I think Google might have a “you seem to be a human” cookie that gets set after a couple of tries.

You should keep it up just for a little while. :)

BTW, Here’s an interesting link to a discussion about this exact issue, and what the ‘right’ thing could be to do. Its refreshing to see a reasonable discussion in blog comments. :)
